Why KEPAWAE?

We promote professionalism in the field of Agriculture and Environment, to link with women farmers and support the next generation of professional women.

We came into being as a result of the need to legalize the existence of an organization of women professionals who had a common challange. We address issues pertaining to professional women as individuals, or collectively and provide a link with the rural woman farmer.

Here is a summary of our vision and mission outcome:

  • Provide leadership in sustainable Agriculture and sound Environment Management.
  • Link up women farmers and stakeholders
  • Support the next generation of professional women in Agriculture and Environment
  • Provide a forum for our members to deliberate on issues and coordinate activities pertaining their professions

In an endeavor to meet our mission, we link our members to National, Regional and International Organizations with similar aspirations.

KEPAWAE HISTORY

Our Story

The Kenya Professional Association of Women in Agriculture & Environment (KEPAWAE) is an association that was founded in 1995, and is dedicated to assisting the numerous women who are the backbone of the Agricultural sector in Kenya.brings together women professionals in the field of Agriculture and Environment to deliberate on issues and coordinate activities pertaining to their respective professions.

The Association was formed out of the felt need to have a legal body of women professionals with a common goal. At two different fora, separate groups of professional women resolved to form an association which would address itself to issues pertaining to their respective professions as individuals and collectively as professionals and to provide a link with the rural woman farmer. A Leadership for Change Workshop held in Nairobi and sponsored by the AWLAE Program of Winrock International and a UNIFEM sponsored conference held in Kampala. Having similar objectives, the two groups got together and formed KEPAWAE as a Professional Association and registered in June 1995.

KEPAWAE addresses itself to the following challenges:

  • The problem of the woman farmer and how the professional woman can reach and support her in the areas of Agriculture and conservation of her Environment.
  • The problem of young girls and professionals who need support in education and professional growth necessary for effective leadership in Agriculture and Environment.
  • Enhancement of the professional and leadership skills of professional women in Agriculture and Environment.

KEPAWAE is a non-profit making and nonpolitical organization.
