KEPAWAE Outreach to women farmers

Through Plan International Kenya Eastern, KEPAWAE successfully achieved the following:

  1. Trained 20 community leaders in gender issues in Tharaka
  2. Assisted community leaders to come up with action plans for training communities.
  3. Trained Plan staff on gender issues in Igembe/Ntonyiri and Tiganis Program Units.

Through a grant from British Council. KEPAWAE conducted two workshops for rural women farmer groups in Embu and Tana River districts. The purpose of this project was to create a learning network for women from different rural women district and identification of needs for capacity building to improve the skills of the women.

Under Gender Network for Rural Women Farmer’s groups in Tana River District and Embu District, A Mango drying training and baseline survey on mango production, utilization and marketing was carried out in Tana River District.

“Women are the priority. The majority of smallholder farmers in Africa are women and, in urban areas, you’re primarily looking at women-led households. So we can’t solve hunger if we don’t have gender-sensitive programming that addresses access to opportunities for women, whether it’s through education or tools for cooking, like solar-powered stoves.”
